VIDEO: Ford F150 Brake Pad De-Lamination and Separation From Backing Plate

In this video, you can see that the brake pads from this Ford F150 have some problems. It looks like the caliper jammed and only the inner brake pad was working. Maybe the extra loads and heat caused the adhesives and integral molding to fail.

The separation of friction and backing plate will result in significant brake vibration/noise. Once present, the bond will continue to deteriorate at an increasing rate. This means replacement pads will be required much earlier than expected.

This a safety issue that could result in hydraulic failure and excessive braking distances. This type of delamination is caused be corrosion that gets between the backing plate and friction material.

The Global Brake Safety Council has issued a technical bulletin to the brake industry and consumers.
