Juneau’s Folly: Brake Failure in Alaska

Juneau Police responded to a car crash involving three vehicles at the intersection of Egan Drive and Mendenhall Loop Road on Sunday.

A thorough investigation revealed that a 49-year-old man driving a 1999 Ford Taurus experienced an alleged brake failure and was unable to stop at a red light. The Taurus then sideswiped a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe that was stopped at the intersection, continued through the intersection and hit the side of a 2005 Pontiac Vibe that was making a left-hand turn. The driver and passenger of the Vibe were taken to a local hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries. The 49-year-old man, who chose to stay unnamed, was cited for operating an unsafe vehicle and failure to carry proof of insurance.
